Musgraves named "2008 Female Vocalist of the Year" at Texas Music Awards
"I had a long, grueling day at the 2008 Texas Music Awards yesterday . . but the dress, makeup, hair, and effort was all worth it! I'm proud to say that I walked away with "2008 TMA Female Vocalist of the Year!" I want to thank everyone who voted. It's one thing to be able to play your music live every weekend, but I feel like it's another to actually be recognized for it by your peers. I'm honored. Thank you"

"If you're tired of watered down, overly produced honky-tonk..."
"Armed with a classically beautiful country voice (all twangy and clever) Kacey Musgraves pushes pop aside and will leave you asking Taylor who? as her Loretta Lynn influence shines through like a ray of hope on the country genre."
5 star CD Review from New Country Star.com
"From the moment she hits the first note on her debut CD, Kacey Musgraves has your full attention. This is country music at its finest. Vocals that warble in that smooth southern style and that could only come out of an artist of this caliber. After writing music reviews for a number of years, this one was certainly a pleasure and one that will be on the list of my most memorable, right alongside George Strait, Kenny Rogers and Dolly Partons' early reviews. Thank you Texas, for giving country music another slice of heaven. Kacey Musgraves voice is absolutely golden.
Absolutely five stars!"

"Musgraves always knew she wanted to be an artist, and her first instrument was the mandolin. “I suck at math and sports,” she laughs. She started singing when she was eight, and now plays the guitar and harmonica, too. However much she enjoys playing, writing is her true passion. “Writing is such a huge part of who I am,” she said. “I consider
myself a country artist, but I’d like to think my music has a good, gritty, Texas, rockin’ feel to
it – Jack Ingram crossed with Loretta Lynn.”
Whatever the mix, Musgraves hopes her music appeals to audiences of all ages. In any case, she is just glad to be back in Texas. “I’m so thankful I had Texas to
come home to,” she said. “It was comforting to know I could
come back to a place which embraces its writers and
artists. Who else has their own music chart?
“I’d like to hear more female artists on Texas
radio,” she said. “I still have a lot to learn, but I’m
going to put myself out there, work hard and have
fun.” Continued . . .

From Katie Key with Best in Texas magazine
“Kacey Musgraves’ self titled CD is good, too! I especially like her version of “Heart of Gold,” and “ You’re Still On My Mind” reminds me of early Lee Ann Womack! Awesome stuff!”

CD review on GoneCountryMagazine.com
"There is a whole lot more Texas dancehall styled around the older country than I had expected, and it is rather refreshing to hear a young artist writing this way and pulling it off the way Musgraves has. For you fans of modern country don't worry, songs like "Halfway To Memphis," "Think Of Me," "Next Time," etc… will fulfill your every need." Read the entire review
